First Nursing Visit Explained
Wondering what happens during a home nursing visit? Here's what to expect, step-by-step, from your first assessment to follow-up care.

Starting in-home nursing care can feel like a big step especially if it’s unfamiliar territory. At Deekay Health, we aim to make it simple, respectful, and transparent. If you or a loved one has been referred for community nursing services, here’s what the first visit usually involves.
A Friendly Introduction
When a referral is received, our care team reaches out to schedule a visit at a convenient time. The first visit is usually conducted by a registered nurse or experienced care coordinator who introduces themselves and explains the process in clear terms.
A Comfortable, At-Home Assessment
The nurse will ask questions about current health, medications, mobility, and home environment. This is not a test, it’s a supportive conversation to help us understand what type of assistance is needed. If necessary, a physical assessment (like checking blood pressure or dressings) may also be done.
No Pressure, Just Information
There are no forms to sign on the spot and no obligation to continue care if you’re not comfortable. Our job is to listen, assess, and offer helpful next steps based on your preferences and needs.
A Tailored Care Plan
If services are suitable and agreed upon, we’ll create a care plan. This outlines the type of support to be provided, how often, and who will deliver it. All plans are reviewed regularly to keep them relevant and responsive.
What Happens Next?
Ongoing visits are scheduled according to the care plan. These might include help with medications, wound care, or assistance with personal tasks all delivered with consistency and respect.
Have Questions Before We Visit?
We welcome calls from clients, carers, and health professionals. Our team is here to help you understand the process before, during, and after care begins.
